RACE REPORT | MotoGP Argentina 2023

In a rainy Argentine Grand Prix, Marco Bezzecchi claimed his first-ever MotoGP victory and took over the championship lead.

Bezzecchi led from the start, despite a challenge from Franco Morbidelli who attempted to pass him on the outside at turn one. Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia also briefly overtook Bezzecchi, but he ultimately maintained his lead. On lap one, Brad Binder crashed following contact with Maverick Vinales. Fabio Quartararo's weekend went from bad to worse when he was pushed off-track by Takaaki Nakagami, dropping to P16.

Fabio Di Giannantonio made early progress and was in fifth place by lap five. No further action was taken by the stewards regarding the incidents between Vinales and Binder, and Nakagami and Quartararo. Rookie Augusto Fernandez completed successful overtakes on Quartararo and Aleix Espargaro on lap eight. Bezzecchi continued to extend his lead over Marquez and Bagnaia, ultimately winning by over 2.5 seconds.

Alex Rins overtook Di Giannantonio for fifth place on lap 10, while Johann Zarco applied pressure on Di Giannantonio. Bagnaia attempted to pass Marquez for second place, but Marquez held him off until Bagnaia eventually overtook him at the penultimate corner. However, Bagnaia crashed on lap 17, effectively ending his chances of a podium finish.

Despite Quartararo being out of the points, he steadily made progress and eventually took seventh place away from Rins. Zarco, who was setting times quicker than any other rider, caught up to Morbidelli and Marquez and overtook Marquez on the final lap to claim second place. However, Bezzecchi remained in control and secured his first MotoGP victory.
